Hughen/STarkweather: Airport Project 2009

The Airport Project is a collaborative series by Hughen/Starkweather completed in 2009. In this series of works, the artists isolate and overlap forms and patterns based on seven U.S. airports. To create each work, the artists drew with ink, graphite and gouache to articulate the individual routes of airlines that originate from each airport and solid color shapes based on the runways and highways surrounding each airport.

In their collaborations, Hughen/Starkweather create artworks that explore the layers, complexities, and patterns that comprise a specific place. They use current and historic information - photographs, maps, and data - to research a location. The resulting artworks map unique forms and patterns derived from built systems and natural movements of a place. For more information and current news, please visit HughenStarkweather.com.
